A WEEK AND A HALF BEFORE JULY 26th

Maia flipped through her sketchbook. She was fighting a serious case of artist’s block, and she was praying that an old drawing of hers would give her inspiration. “Kill me nooooooooow,” she said. Any creative block was the devil.

“AAAAH! THIS ISN’T WORKING AT ALL!” Maia threw her arms up, conveniently throwing the pages back. Maia was faced with Muffler Black, her drawing and description smiling at her. Right there, close to the top, was “Inspiration: Cassandra*.”

Maia could suddenly remember her classmate that she was most likely having again next year. She still admired her, though not as much as she did before school ended. It probably had something to do with the fact that she had quit Tae Kwon Do. Cassy: the girl that could attract everyone. Maia snorted. Even the stubborn Marcus L. eventually fell for her.

Maia couldn’t deny that she was a bit jealous. She had once taken a liking to Marcus L., but he had changed a lot since they first met. He had a mop of red hair-a color that Maia rarely saw-and was extremely tall. She didn’t have a crush on him anymore, but she loved that hair.

“Frack,” Maia said. “Whenever something like that happens, it usually means that I’m about to make an OC.” Maia had a slight obsession with these OCs of hers and she loved making them, but she was afraid that it was getting out of hand. Though, she did have artist’s block on everything else…and she was already getting ideas. Well, not letting this one go, she thought.

Maia struggled with coming up with idea, as it was summer vacation, meaning that she would have trouble recalling all of the details that she needed. It didn’t help that he had taken his Facebook account down. She grabbed her sketchbook and, out loud, called to her OCs. “Guys! I’m heading to the park! Wanna come with?”

About half an hour later, the African American was sitting on a bench in the largest park in her city. She tapped her chin. He would have to be tall and have red hair. That was for certain. And for some reason, she had a strange idea about giving him a birthmark around his right eye. That would be less odd if she wasn’t imagining that the birthmark was in the shape of a bright red star. She then heard-imagined, what’s the difference?-laughing. Maia looked up to see Mora and Black laughing. Apparently Scu had said something funny. She frowned. Shade was on the same bench as her, and Miraculous was hanging out in a tree, but where was Canvas? GUYS! HAVE YOU SEEN CANVAS!? she thought/shouted.

After that, Maia couldn’t come up with any ideas for the new OC. She was able to give Muffler Black a new design. She was still stressing out over that French knot, but she would fix that another day.

Trying to keep Marcus’s physical appearance in mind, Maia tried to create the OC over the next couple of days. He had red hair that looked like it came from a bottle. Of course, it didn’t. Maia decided that he would be able to-as she put it-generate red throwing stars from his birthmark. He could also turn into a giant due to his size, though he couldn’t control his size; he couldn’t shrink.

Days later, Maia decided that his name would be Red Star. It seemed to have a nice, familiar ring to it, though she couldn’t figure out why. Red Star eventually had a black shirt, white pants, and white shoes. To prevent the outfit from looking dull, she added a chain and a necklace with a red star at the end.

Maia smirked. He smiled in the drawing of him. She decided to make him goofy and fun-loving, along with clumsy. “You think he’s ready, Mora?” Maia asked out loud, doubting that the main OC would bother answering. When she got no answer, she sighed and smiled. “Yeah, tomorrow I’ll do it.”

JULY 26, 2012

Magnificent Morado, Miraculous, Shade, Muffler Black, Scu, and Canvas. Those were the names of the OCs that were in the room with Maia. “He looks cool,” Shade said with a smile. “He is cool,” Maia replied. She held the drawing at arm’s length. “Come one out…Red Star.”

Star, as Maia decided to nickname him, slumped over the couch that Maia was sitting on. He looked so much like Marcus that it was actually scary. “Star?” Maia whispered. He muttered something inaudible before slowly opening his blank, green eyes and looking up at Maia. “Do you know who I am?” she asked. “You’re Maia,” Star mumbled. “That’s right. And you know who all of them are?” Maia gestured to the others. Red Star slowly nodded. “And your powers?” Maia asked.

Red Star slowly got to his feet. He closed his right eye and held his right hand up. The birthmark glowed, and a throwing star shot out and into his hand. His eye opened, and he waved it slightly. Maia smiled. “What about the other power?” she asked. Red Star nodded. He practically shot up to a larger size without hesitation. CRASH!! With her vivid imagination, Maia imagined the ceiling of the room being crashed through, Star at full size. “Oh. My. Gosh,” Mora said. Canvas began to scream.

“What the heck,” Maia muttered. She didn’t see that coming. “Uh, R-Red Star? You can shrink, now.” Yep. Clumsy, indeed.

SLIGHTLY OVER A YEAR LATER

Maia had been planning to introduce her OCs to deviantART for a while, and she was going through all of her OCs, revamping them if she thought necessary. She eventually came to Red Star. She frowned. The design appeared to be bland now, and the characters were still growing with the person that they were based off of. Over past year, Marcus had changed his hairstyle-which disappointed Maia-and had become muscular. Very. Muscular.

Maia glanced over the design once again. In the very sketchbook that she drew Star’s first design in, she flipped to a new page and started drawing again. She wanted to keep the necklace and chain and his current powers. But…she wanted him to have more.

Giving him a tougher image, Maia decided that he would be muscular like Marcus. When she failed at drawing muscles, she drew a leather jacket and turned his shirt white. He looked more confident in the drawing, not to mention her drawing skills had improved. “Super…strength?” “What?” Maia jumped to see Star right next to her. She should have seen that coming. “Hey, Star. Just wondering, would you like something different? Like say…super-strength?” Maia knew that saying “different” would probably make him say no, since he was so stubborn, but Star glanced at the new drawing. He tugged at his still-black shirt, knowing that Maia would probably pressure him into wearing the new design.

“With this…at the moment, you can defeat Black half the time, Electric half the time, Miraculous, and Can-wait, Canvas?” Maia frowned. She knew very well that Red Star couldn’t defeat Canvas. Not in his current state, anyway. But instead of erasing the list, she ignored it, knowing she wouldn’t need it. “Anyway, in this it would be the same, except you could defeat Canvas half of the time due to a tougher skin, and Scu half of the time. Sounds like a good deal?” Maia asked. “Uh…yeah,” Star said. Maia smiled. “Get used to it, then.” Star looked down to see that his outfit had in fact changed. “Nice,” he admitted. “I actually like this.” Maia rolled her eyes. “Good to know.”

PRESENT DAY

“Wooooow, you’re tired,” Red Star said, looking at his creator. Maia was putting the visiting touches on the Word file called “Red Star’s Second Birthday.” She had no access to her computer for a week, and she was lucky enough to have finished the drawing before she left for vacation. “Yes I am, Star, but it’s your birthday.” “Don’t push yourself,” Star quickly said. Her eyes were burning a bit, and she was typing and watching What Would You Do at the same time (while cursing Hulu for being awful AGAIN). It was a shock that she hadn’t collapsed yet. “By the way, Star, thanks for not wanting a new design or whatever.” Star shrugged. “I didn’t see a point in wanting an update.” Star paused for a second. “God, that made me sound like an android.” Maia laughed. “Sorry that your creation story’s not so interesting.” “To me, it is. It’s the story of my birth, after all.” Maia nodded. “True. I—” Maia yawned and fell sideways, placing her head on the couch’s pillow. Star laughed. “Get some sleep, Maia.” “Happy birthday, Red Star,” Maia muttered. Star smiled. “Thank you, Maia. For creating me and accepting me.”

And then, Star decided to head back to what he and the others called the “Imagination Plane,” where he prayed that the others wouldn’t drive him too nuts.

I'm tired. VERY tired. However, Red Star's my OC, and I'm not letting him down.

I guess that this and the next deviation will be my celebration of 11,000 pageviews. I'm too tired to freak out. So, here's my reaction if I was more awake:
